On a sweltering day at Ironman Austria, Pedro Gomes finished 3rd amongst a top notch field with a time of 8hr 26mins. Pedro combined a solid swim with a much improved bike, and topped things off with one of the fastest marathons of the day to return to an official WTC Ironman event podium.
The field of 2700 athletes that gathered in Klagenfurt for the 14th edition of Ironman Austria was taken by surprise with a non-wetsuit swim due to the extreme heat the country is dealing with. In fact, it was the hottest day ever in Klagenfurt since they began keeping records! The men’s pro field was headlined by former World Champion Faris, Al Sultan.
With his strong performance across all three disciplines, Pedro’s 3rd place finish moves him to 52nd place on the Kona World Pro Rankings and will now focus on bettering his performance at Ironman New York August 12th.
